General Campground Information

Q: What is Burbalac Christian Campground?

Burbalac Christian Campground is a quiet summer campground where families, couples, friends, individuals, and groups can enjoy simple, affordable camping in a Christ-centered environment. The campground is family-friendly, peaceful, and surrounded by nature, providing a place to rest, reconnect, and enjoy God’s creation together.

Q: Where is Burbalac located and how do I get there?

Burbalac is located in Woodview, Ontario, on Big Cedar Lake, about 30 minutes north of Peterborough. The campground is just off Highway 28, with a local road leading into the property.

Directions from HWY 401

  1. Take Highway 35/115 north to Peterborough.

  2. Merge onto Highway 115 North.

  3. Take Highway 7 East.

  4. Take Highway 28 North (formerly Highway 134).

  5. Turn right, follow Highway 28 North to Woodview.

  6. Turn left just past the Woodview General Store onto Julian Lake Road.

  7. The campground entrance is 3 km in on the right.

Camping Availability

Q: Can I book a campsite online?

No. Burbalac does not have an online booking portal. To inquire about dates and campsite availability, please fill out our Request A Campsite form. Our Camp Registrar will review your request and reply by email to let you know what sites and dates are available.

Q: Are there group or seasonal sites?

Yes. Burbalac offers a limited number of group camping sites suitable for church groups or small retreats, as well as ten seasonal sites. Availability is handled individually; please use the Request A Campsite form to ask about these options.

Q: Are there canoe rentals available?

Yes. Canoes are available for rent during your stay.

Rental Details:

  • $10 per day
  • $20 refundable deposit required for all rentals
  • Renters must be at least 18 years of age
Q: Can I bring my boat?

Yes. Campers are welcome to bring their own boat to Burbalac.

Docking must be requested when submitting your Request A Site form, and space is not guaranteed without prior confirmation.

Docking Fees:

  • Boats up to 16 feet: $10 per day or $60 per week
  • Boats over 16 feet: $15 per day or $90 per week

Dock space is limited, so please include your boat length and dates in your site request.

Q: Do you have trailers for rent?

No. We do not have trailers available for rent at this time.

Guests are welcome to bring their own trailer, subject to site suitability and availability. Please include trailer details when submitting your Request A Site form.

Q: What size trailers are allowed at Burbalac?

To ensure safe access and adequate space for all campers, we recommend trailers 30 feet or shorter. Larger units may be difficult to accommodate due to site layout and road access. If your trailer is longer than 30 feet, please contact the Registrar in advance to discuss availability and options.

Q: How many campsites are available to rent?

We have 24 campsites in total at Burbalac. During the camping season, 10 regular campsites and 1 large group site is available to book. The remaining sites are seasonal.

Campground Policies

Q: Are pets allowed?

Yes, pets are welcome at Burbalac, but they must be kept on a leash. For the comfort and safety of all campers, pets are not permitted on the beach or in certain shared activity areas. Please clean up after your pet and be mindful of other campers.

Q: Are there quiet hours?

Yes. Quiet time is observed starting at 11:00 PM each night and ends at 8:00 AM. We ask all campers to respect quiet hours so everyone can enjoy a peaceful night’s rest.

Q: What safety rules should I know?
  1. Parents and guardians must supervise children at all times, especially near the water, as the beach is unsupervised. Do not swim alone at the diving rock.

  2. Fires are permitted only in designated fire pits and must be closely monitored. They are allowed between 6:00 PM and 8:00 AM in accordance with the North Kawartha Bylaw. All fire regulations will be strictly enforced.

  3. Ride bicycles safely, at reasonable speeds, and with consideration for pedestrians and shared roads.

  4. Keep campsites and common areas clean and tidy, and dispose of garbage and recycling in the appropriate bins.

  5. Drive slowly throughout the campground.

  6. Launch canoes from the east side of the beach where they are stored. All canoes must carry a legally required safety kit.

Q: Is alcohol and cannabis allowed?

No. Alcohol, non-medical cannabis, and illegal drugs are not permitted at Burbalac Christian Campground. We maintain a family-friendly, Christian environment and ask all guests to respect this policy.

Q: Is smoking tobacco allowed?

Yes. Smoking tobacco is only allowed on your own campsite. Please clean up any smoking-related garbage.

Q: Is the tap water safe to drink?

Tap water meets Ministry of Health requirements for drinking. Bottled water is available at the Woodview General Store or in Lakefield.

Q: How do I dispose of garbage and recycling?

Seasonal site holders and transient campers are responsible for the removal of their own garbage and recycling. When campers register, they will be given information about local transfer stations. North Kawartha now requires all garbage to be put in clear bags. Clear bags will be provided at the Gatehouse for campers in need.
